Your Voice is Needed

To support 800,000 young people

who depend on DACA

My friends,

My Brother Bishops and I are encouraging all our parishes in The Archdiocese of Los Angeles to participate in the National Call-In Day to Protect Dreamers on February, 26th 2018.

The Bishops of the United States are calling on all Catholics to please contact their Representatives and Senators on both sides of the political aisle, encourage them to come together as leaders to compromise, to find a legislative solution for recipients, and those who are eligible for DACA. It is time for Congress to act before the DACA program comes to an end putting millions of young men and women at risk of being deported and leaving behind the only home many have ever known.

When Congress returns to Capitol Hill on February 26th, it will have only a week to act before the March 5th deadline. Each day after the March 5th, recipients face the possibility of losing their DACA protections-their ability to go to school, to serve in the military, work legally, and most of all to avoid deportation. And even now, every passing day, DACA youth are falling out of status. While pending litigation has temporarily blocked the rescission of DACA for the moment, it is likely that the Supreme Court will overturn the temporary order. So now is the time for our lawmakers to do their jobs.

It is time for Congress to act before the DACA program comes to an end putting millions of young men and women at risk of being deported and leaving behind the only home many have ever known.

Our elected officials know what they need to do. They need to know you care — and that millions of voters care also.

Most Reverend José H. Gomez
Archbishop of Los Angeles
